Eric Fretz is the pastor for Bridge Church located in Moyock, NC

How long have you been in business in Currituck County?

Although we only began meeting at the beginning of this year, we plan to be an active member in the community for years to come!

Can you describe your business?

As of now, our church is at more of an infancy state. So our gatherings are pretty organic. We meet weekly at the Eagle Creek Golf Club Event Space on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:15. We hang out, eat pizza, watch our kids play and we worship and teach from the Bible and cast vision for the future.

We are planning to launch Sunday morning Services in the fall of 2022(location TBD).

We also plan to purchase land in the Moyock area and eventually build a church building in the area, which hopefully could also be used for community and business events.

Can you talk about the decision to start the business?

I believe that God laid it on the heart of my wife and I to plant a church in the Currituck area and it all began in March of 2020 when the world seemingly shut down.

My in-laws have had a property on Bells Island that has been passed down through multiple generations that they had just rebuilt on and we ended up living there for about 6 months!

During that time we grew an even deeper love for the area and appreciation for the community and felt like there was a genuine need for a good life giving church in the area.

Bridge Church is continuing to expand its reach and plant new churches and they also wanted to plant a church in the Moyock/Currituck area and as God would have it, we crossed paths.

So my family and I recently moved to Moyock and are excited to start a new church here in the community!

Why do you do what you do?

As a Christian, we believe in calling and purpose. I believe that God calls people to do certain things in there lives and He ordains their purpose on this Earth before they ever walk on it.

My wife and I feel like we are walking in our purpose planting this church in this area.

Why did you choose Currituck?

I would say Currituck County chose me. Sounds weird, but It would take hours to explain all of the things that aligned for everything that fell into place to come to pass!

God's cool like that.

Are you from Currituck or did you relocate here?

My wife has been coming to this area since she was a little girl with her parents place on Bells Island and she's been bringing me for the past 7 years we've been married, but we recently relocated from the VA Beach area.

Did you consider other locations (besides Currituck) for your business?

My wife and I considered other locations to potentially plant a church but all the dominoes fell in line and we felt strongly that the Lord was asking us to sell our house and move to Currituck!

What are your biggest challenges as a business owner?

Awareness. We are just a small group of individuals who want to make a big impact on the community. The challenge is making people aware of who we are and what we're about.

What are the biggest rewards?

Blessing a community. To me, there's nothing better than seeing people transformed, marriages healed, families restored, addicts delivered and needy people taken taken care of.

What sets you apart?

This world needs truth more than ever before. People aren't getting truth these days from anywhere else. People need the love, joy and peace that is only available in Jesus.

We offer people the gospel (Good news) that they can have a relationship with the creator of the universe that will change their lives and the lives of the people around them for the ultimate good.

We tell people about the one who can give them eternal life... Who doesn't want to live forever?

Have you worked with any local departments or organizations?

I've called Larry (Lombardi) once or twice and talked with him. I am currently a member of the Chamber of Commerce and we are working with local business owners and residents to create events that bless communities and spread awareness.

Any advice for someone starting a business in Currituck County?

I think that there is a need for things for young families to do in this Moyock/Currituck area. With so many people moving to the area (and will continue to) I think it would be strategic to capitalize on creating family events, shopping, and fun for residents or else they will constantly go to Chesapeake and VA Beach to do their business.
