Have you always lived in Currituck or did you relocate here?
I relocated here in 2008.
If you moved here, what was it about Currituck County that most appealed to you?
LOL! I moved here to marry my husband, Mark.
Do you remember the moment that you decided to start your own business?
I wanted to be able to offer these services to the community and teach others to do these procedures properly. I have been thinking about this for about 4 years.
I’ve always supported breast cancer survivors and research, but when I learned of how women could have their breasts repigmented in 3D after mastectomy, I knew that this was something I wanted to do.
What's the best part about operating a business in Currituck County?
Definitely it is the people. This community is so welcoming and supportive. I’ve met so many wonderful people, and have felt like a part of this community from my first visit.
What's the hardest part about running a business in Currituck County?
I’d say it’s a combination of just working to become a known and respected business, and bringing in clientele from outside of Moyock, which is necessary to build a business like mine.
What advice would you give to someone interested in starting a business in Currituck County?
Get to know your regulations, zoning and the laws governing your business. Then seek help from those in a position to assist you in building a business that will be of good to your community. I found the county (employees at the proper offices) to be helpful and encouraging of my dream to build this business here.
What do you most want people (in Currituck County and beyond) to know about you and your business?
I will also be training students to properly perform the services I offer, and when I have students there will be an opportunity for me to give back. When I train in areola re-pigmentation I will be offering deep discounts and even some pro bono treatments for those who cannot afford to pay for this service. This to me is my most important work, to give back some of what these women have lost to breast cancer.
