Have you always lived in Currituck or did you relocate here?

My parents have owned a house in Corolla since 1995, and my family owns Philly Steak Subs restaurant, so I am very familiar with the town. I am not a year-round resident, but I am here for extended periods of time during the summer months and often travel to Corolla for business purposes in the off season.

What was it about Currituck County that most appealed to you?

Currituck County has the best beaches I’ve been to! The atmosphere is great, the wild horses are unique, and both the locals and vacationers always seem happy.

Do you remember the moment that you decided to start your own business?

I first considered starting a power washing company in the winter of 2017. I did some market research and found that there weren’t many companies licensed, insured, and certified to operate in the Outer Banks. I spoke with a few property managers, and most of them agreed that my services would be in high demand in the area. I also asked a few of my neighbors if they would be interested in my services, and I received a lot of interest and positive feedback.

What's the best part about owning and operating a business in Currituck County?

It’s a short commute, there is a lot of opportunity, and people are anxious to help you get started.

What's the hardest part about owning and operating a business in Currituck County?

The in-season traffic, without question.

What advice would you give to someone interested in starting a business in Currituck County?

First, get to know your neighbors and the residents in your community. They are friendly and very willing to help “spread the word” about local small businesses that provide a great service at a fair price. To put it bluntly, word travels fast in the Outer Banks if you do good work—and that word travels even faster if you get to know the locals.

Second, reach out to the Currituck County government and economic development team. They’re very helpful, especially when it comes to providing advice and guidance to new small business owners in the area.

What's one thing you wish you could change about your business?

I wish I would’ve started it sooner!

Before and after treatment by Outer Banks Power Washing

What do you most want people (in Currituck County and beyond) to know about you and your business?

Our services are unique because unlike most of our competitors, we are licensed and have been awarded numerous certifications from the PWNA to power wash all of the materials mentioned above.

We also hold an environmental certification and use environmentally friendly detergents that do not damage building materials and will not cause harm to the barrier island’s ecosystem. We use the most sophisticated power washing technology available; we have the latest in soft wash equipment and the ability to take all the water needed for a job with us if the homeowner can’t provide it on-site.

Also… I live on the same street as the houses I wash. I take great pride in my company’s work, and will always go the extra mile to ensure that my customers are satisfied with the results. We know what we’re doing when it comes to power washing. Our employees are always courteous and professional, and they always try their best to finish projects in a timely fashion.
