Matthew Broughton is the president of Low Tide Bar and Grill in Corolla, NC. This full-service Southern seafood restaurant has been open for two years and they are looking forward to one of their best seasons yet.

Can you talk about the decision to open your own business?

I have owned and operated a few different restaurants in Corolla for the past 16 years. In a nervous time when the property owner of one of Cosmo's Pizza went into foreclosure, I had to find a space. I stumbled upon the great space on Old Stoney Road.

With the property that Cosmo’s Pizza was on finally out of danger, I could focus on the Stoney Road location. I met chef Barry Brooks and our styles and personalities worked perfectly. Two years later we're getting ready for one of our best seasons yet!

Why Currituck County?

I’ve lived here since I was in high school. Currituck County chose me!

Why do you do what you do?

I love happy people and good times! I’ve worked in restaurants since I was 12. My fondest memories as a kid were always around food and drinks. I love bringing that happiness to other families.

Did you consider other locations besides Currituck?

Nope.
