OBX Treasure Hunt

kevin king

Kevin King is the owner of OBX Treasure Hunt, which launched in 2019.

Can you describe your business?

OBX Treasure Hunt is a text-message-based scavenger hunt with clues to solve like an escape room. To solve the clues, answers can be found in and around different locations.

Why did you decide to start your own business?

I wanted a recreational activity based around tourism that could be played using a phone. When we moved here it was my mission to open a business by 2020.

Why do you do what you do?

I love this area and want to show the beauty and history to those who visit by sharing a fun activity for locals, experienced visitors, or first-time tourists alike.

Why did you choose Currituck County?

While attending Old Dominion University, I did an internship at The Currituck Club. I made it a goal to live here by 30.

Are you from Currituck or did you relocate here?

Relocate. I was raised in Smithfield, VA and went to college in Norfolk. I worked in Washington D.C. for 5 years.

Did you consider other locations for your business?

It came down to where we wanted to live. We looked in Dare County but in the end fell in love with Corolla. Currituck County being packed with potential helps too.
