Rich and Denise Schmitt opened Off the Wall Tap House in July of 2018.
Off The Wall is a casual, self-serve tap house. We use new technology to give our patrons a customized tasting experience. A personal RFID bracelet allows the customer to choose and pour any of our 20 craft beers by the ounce. Taste test an ounce, enjoy a pint or fill up a growler to go; it’s totally up to the customer.
If you’re not a beer drinker, no problem. We also offer wine, mixed drinks and non-alcoholic beverages. Our food ranges from shareable snacks to entire meals. We hope folks will join us to watch their favorite sports or enjoy the ocean breeze on our patio.
We spent a few years just watching the beer wall technology develop before we committed to the concept, however, we always knew we would be establishing it in Corolla. There was nowhere else we wanted to be.
Our whole management team has over 70 years of combined experience in all aspects of the restaurant industry. Anyone who has ever participated in this type of work can attest to the fast-paced, long hours of this industry. You have to love it and we do.
After vacationing to the OBX for the past 25 years, we sold our home in Pennsylvania and bought a house in the Currituck Club in Corolla. We love living down here and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
The biggest reward is to be able to live at the beach and spend our days with great people. We love the local residents and the friendly vacationers we meet every week. We’re tickled to be a part of such a great community.
Do your research. Know your demographic and the market you are getting involved in. Then embrace the area and become a good addition to the community.
